Nicholas R. Walter
Nicholas R. Walter represents businesses and individuals in appeals and civil litigation, including commercial, employment, insurance, personal injury, products liability, professional liability, trust and probate disputes, and workers’ compensation matters. He practices from Lynn Jackson’s Sioux Falls office and was admitted to practice in South Dakota in 2025.
Nick was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and graduated from Harrisburg High School in 2018. In 2021, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, with a minor in English, from the University of South Dakota. At USD, Nick graduated summa cum laude, earned a University Scholar designation, and was selected to be a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Nick then attended law school at Baylor University, graduating cum laude in 2024. During law school, Nick served as a Senior Executive Editor of the Baylor Law Review, had his article “Defer your Deference: How Courts Should Handle the Intersection of the Indian Canons of Construction and Chevron Deference” published in the Baylor Law Review, and was a brief writer for Baylor’s Admiralty Moot Court team for two years.
After graduating, Nick returned to South Dakota and served as a law clerk for the Second Judicial Circuit of South Dakota, assisting judges with research and writing in Lincoln and Minnehaha counties. Nick joined the Lynn Jackson firm following his clerkship and his practice focuses on a wide variety of litigation matters.
In his free time, Nick enjoys exercising, reading, watching football and basketball (the Vikings and Timberwolves specifically), and spending time with his friends, family, and miniature dachshund.
