Lynn Jackson’s Newest Associate, Madison (Huber) Young, receives the Woods Aitken Outstanding Student Award from the University of Nebraska College of Law*

The Woods Aitken Outstanding Student Award honors a third-year law student who has committed to building the Nebraska Law community by demonstrating excellence in the classroom and exemplifying qualities consistent with the University of Nebraska College of Law’s mission and values.

The 2020 Woods Aitken Outstanding Student Award winner was Madison L. Huber, who graduated in 2020. During her time at the College, Huber was a tremendous contributor to the College of Law. She was a member of the College’s National Trial Team and National Moot Court Team. In addition, she was an active member of the Women’s Law Caucus, volunteered for the VITA program and served on the faculty appointments committee. Of her time at Nebraska Law, highlighted some of the qualities that awarded her this recognition.

“She graduated at the top of her class and amassed all the academic awards we have to offer. I believe that as impressive as these accomplishments are, they are mere byproducts of a pursuit of something more,” said assistant dean of student affairs and introducer, Marc W. Pearce. “She volunteered her time to counsel students who were struggling and supported them during difficult times. She is driven to make a meaningful and positive difference for the people in her community.”

Of her experience at UNL’s College of Law, Huber said, “People here are so generous with their time, which held true of my professors, classmates and alumni, as they were willing to put aside whatever was going on in their lives to help others, show compassion and thoughtfulness.” Reminiscing about a call she received from Dean Richard Moberly, Huber shared, “Despite the ongoing pandemic and the amount of work on Dean Moberly’s plate, he took the time to personally call me and apologize that this very banquet would have to be postponed. When I think back on that phone call, it’s one of the reasons I love Nebraska.”

Following graduation from the University of Nebraska College of Law, Madison was a judicial clerk for the Honorable Roberto A. Lange of the Federal District Court for the District of South Dakota.  Madison is now an associate attorney at Lynn, Jackson, Shultz & Lebrun, and practices in many areas of the law.

The Journey Museum Hosts the Unveiling of “Tinker”

Lynn Jackson and the Journey Museum are proud to showcase “Tinker” the juvenile Tyrannosaurus Rex discovered in South Dakota.

RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA, OCTOBER 2021  — The Journey Museum will be hosting a reception at 222 New York Street, Rapid City, South Dakota,  on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 5 p.m., featuring the unveiling of “Tinker” the juvenile Tyrannosaurus Rex discovered in South Dakota.

The attorneys at Lynn Jackson played a large role in the legal battles surrounding the extraction of the remains of baby “Tinker.” Because of their role in protecting these fossils, Ron Frithiof of Austin, Texas, the man who discovered the skeleton of the teenage Tyrannosaurus Rex has gifted a mold of the remains to an educational institution of Lynn Jackson’s choice. The South Dakota law firm was happy to contribute to the discovery and donated the mold to the Journey Museum.

Attorney Tom Fritz recalls the 1998 legal fight well. “There are trials and cases that attorneys face in their careers that are so memorable. The case of ‘Tinker’ is one of those unforgettable cases.” Bringing Tinker home to South Dakota is exciting to all involved in this endeavor. “Having the opportunity to bring more of South Dakota’s history to the Journey Museum is beyond exciting,” explains Executive Director of the Journey Museum, Troy Kilpatrick. “There’s something about dinosaur fossils that brings out the child in everyone. Adding these replicas to the Journey Museum will not only educate children in the area but bring them joy.”

The reception and unveiling of “Tinker” are open to the public. Lynn Jackson and the Journey Museum encourage the community to witness history in the making.

Verdict Alert

Attorneys Ross Wright and Cesar Juarez won a true David versus Goliath battle in a personal injury case tried in federal district court last week.  Daniel D. Keyes (Dan) broke a bone and suffered other injuries that required knee and hip replacement surgeries after several unsecured windows crashed down on him from a five-foot shelf at a Sioux Falls Menards store.  The DIY giant denied responsibility for two years – a few weeks before trial, Menards finally agreed it had a duty to protect its customers and failed to do that with Dan. Then, at trial, the corporation audaciously argued Dan should receive only approximately $6,500 in damages because he had pre-existing degenerative arthritis to both joints and was going to require the surgeries at some point in the future.  Attorneys Wright and Juarez did not back down; they stood up for Dan.  Ultimately, the seven-member jury did too.  They awarded Dan $335,363.27 as reimbursement for medical bills, lost earnings, pain, suffering, and loss of enjoyment of life.
